Sardinia is one of the world’s most beautiful and relatively untouched holiday destinations.
Though its popularity is certainly growing, many areas of this island remain very rural, making them perfect for the kind of agriturismo stays you might be looking for.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to find somewhere suitably rustic for an agriturismo around the Mediterranean, which is why Sardinia is very much an untapped resource.

What To Do In Sardinia
If you’re hoping to get out and see the sights of Sardinia whilst staying at an agriturismo, then you’ll want to know about the different places that you can visit.
For example, there are gorgeous sights to see all around the island, but if you want to see more, then you’ll have to get on a ferry.
For this, you’ll need to travel to either Cagliari or Olbia in the northeast, which are the main ports of entry for the surrounding islands.
There you can travel to the various beaches or go snorkeling in the cyan-blue ocean. You might even be able to spot the beautiful pink sands of Spiaggia Rosa on the island of Budelli.
If nature is more your thing, you can take guided tours to see the local wildlife, including lagoons that are often full of flamingos.
There are plenty of plants and animals that you can find across the various landscapes of the untouched wilderness.
What Is An Agriturismo?
An agriturismo roughly translates to “farm stay”, and that’s exactly what you’re signing up for. Most of the time, the places that’ll stay are working farms, and the owners are the workers.
Your room will either be in the main farmhouse or in an annex that’s built nearby, but certainly, the stay will feel quite informal.
There probably won’t be a reception, and if you’ve paid for food, then it’s going to be homemade.
This is actually our favorite thing about staying in a farmhouse – the food. It’s very well known that the best Italian food isn’t the stuff served in fancy restaurants in Rome but in an Italian Grandma’s kitchen in the hills.
That’s exactly the kind of food that you get when you stay at an agriturismo.
It’s important to remember that these are working farms, which means you might end up getting woken up in the early hours of the morning by the roosters, but that’s all part of the fun.
It’s important to note that agriturismos are remote, and we mean remote. This means that sometimes it can be very difficult to get to them. Though some owners will come and pick you up, however, that’s not a guarantee.
Without a car, you will definitely struggle to make it to an agriturismo, and you will be stranded there for the duration of your stay.
Now, maybe that doesn’t sound too bad to you, but it’s certainly something that you have to bear in mind.
Another thing to know about agriturismos is that, whilst this list is full of the best farmhouses that have pools on site, this isn’t actually all that common. Mostly because you’re never more than half an hour away from a stunning beach, so most people in Sardinia see pools as a little unnecessary.
However, if you know you would prefer to be lounging in the sun with your own (mostly) private pool then you need to check out our favorite farmhouses with pools in Sardinia.
Best Agriturismo Farm Houses With Pools In Sardinia
1. Il Podere Di Monte Sixeri
Near the city of Alghero and the Smeralda beach, Il Podere Di Monte Sixeri is a stylish and fairly modern farmhouse that boasts 60 acres of working farm.
On the farm, they produce the famous San Giuliano extra virgin olive oil, as well as keeping pigs, hens, and horses.
Despite its proximity to the city, you’ll be surprised at how rural and quiet the farm is; perfect for a peaceful holiday.
The accommodation here is all self-catering, with each apartment equipped with a decent kitchenette, a TV, and a washing machine.
As well as this, you will find that each room has at least some outdoor space, whether it’s a balcony or just a private terrace.
Best of all, there are three swimming pools for you to relax and unwind in, all with hydro-massage features.
There are also two children’s playgrounds for the little ones to run about and enjoy themselves.
2. Casale Degli Ulivi
This next agriturismo is also near Alghero, on the Coral Riviera side.
There, you can find some of the most gorgeous beaches that Sardinia has to offer.
But if you don’t want to trek out to the sandy beaches, then staying on this stunning 30-acre farm will reward you with beautiful gardens, a hot tub, and a swimming pool, all at your disposal.
The apartments are a little small, unable to accommodate more than 4 people, however, you can’t deny the coziness.
We love the exposed wooden beams throughout the apartments that give them a rustic, true farmhouse feel.
Our favorite part of this particular agriturismo has to be how eco-friendly it is.
It has recently had renovations that have incorporated a photovoltaic system for hot water and heating which gives the building an A+ energy class certificate.
3. Country Hotel Mandra Edera
If you’re looking for a more hands-on holiday, then allow us to recommend the Country Hotel Mandra Edera B&B agriturismo farm in the center of Sardinia.
This farm is very cool for more adventurous holiday-goers because it specializes in cooking classes and horse riding.
In fact, this ranch has been breeding Anglo-Arabian horses for over 100 years and is a very important center for this breed.
And they all get to free-roam around the property. If you like horses, you’re going to love this place.
The rooms at this agriturismo are all comfortable and simple, whilst boasting exposed brick walls, private bathrooms, air conditioning, and a minibar.
Something that we love about this ranch is the food. Included in the price, you get a free high-quality breakfast, as well as other meals that are all locally sourced and traditional.
4. Is Cheas
Our next farm is a lot smaller than the others, only coming in at around 12 acres. However, we think that this is a beautiful, unique stay that we would love to celebrate.
First of all, you stay in traditional (though updated) Sardinian shepherd’s huts known as Pinettas.
Although in the past these huts wouldn’t have had any accommodations, however, in these modern adaptations, you get a private bathroom, air-con, WIFI, and a minibar – doesn’t that just scream fancy?
The farm itself is a modest fruit farm that grows lemons, limes, and oranges.
As well as this they also grow a small selection of vegetables, mushrooms, and herbs. However, the piece de resistance has to be the small, organic vineyard.
5. Su Massaiu
Su Massaiu is another agriturismo set close to the center of Sardinia. This is a beautiful facility with lots of accommodations such as an outdoor swimming pool, a restaurant, free WIFI, and free private parking.
Couples in particular enjoy this location because of how out of the way and private it is.
You can also rent bikes from Su Massaiu which is great if you want another way to get around that allows you to take in more of the stunning scenery.
This farm produces its own wheat and wheat-based products, meaning that there is always fresh bread on hand. Plus, you can buy saffron on-site.
The best thing about this agriturismo has to be the fact that it’s only a 15-minute drive to the Sardegna in Miniatura water park.
6. Is Perdas Rural Retreat & Spa
Okay, you got us. Technically this resort isn’t actually an agriturismo, even though it’s listed as such. That’s because there’s no working farm.
However, it’s clear to see that the property used to be farmland and that the buildings have all been updated from old farmhouses.
We love how this particular stay feels a little more like a hotel than the other inclusions on this list, which means that it’s potentially more accessible to people who have never been to an agriturismo-style holiday place before.
Final Thoughts
There are plenty of different styles of agriturismo that you can stay in across Sardinia, from traditional shepherd’s huts to resorts that are practically hotels.
However, the one constant across all of these locations is the peaceful atmosphere and rustic feeling that will leave you feeling like you never want to set foot in a city again.
